Kings Beach revitalized
After several years of road and improvement construction to the tune of $50 million Kings Beach has come out the other side revitalized and ready for an exciting future. “The Kings Beach Commercial Core improvement project has greatly improved downtown Kings Beach by making the town more safe, welcoming, and pedestrian and bike friendly,” said Joy Doyle, Executive Director of the North Tahoe Business Association.
The three lane road with roundabouts has provided better visibility and access for businesses to be successful in the beach front community, and entrepreneurs have responded by developing enterprises that provide what locals and visitors are looking for, such as Central Market and King’s Cafe. “many businesses are reporting increased traffic as word gets out about the new-look and functionality of Kings Beach,” said Doyle.
As one of the more affordable places to live at North Lake Tahoe, a lot of young families have made Kings Beach home over the last 15 years. Many enjoy the Kings Beach Elementary School and it’s adjacent very active Boy and Girls Club. And of course they also enjoy the amazing sandy beach that stretches from the boat launch at the east end of town to Tahoe Vista. Aside from being a great beach for a walk, it’s an awesome place for kids because the water drops off gradually.
In addition to the public investment in improvements, Kings Beach is now seeing an influx of private investment on the lakeshore. In 2016 a condominium project called Tahoe Beachfront Residences was completed with a number of units currently for sale. Also, long time Kings Beach stalwarts the Ferrari Family sold the Crown Resort and several other properties and planning is underway to redevelop these parcels.
“Kings Beach is on the verge of further exciting evolution, which will positively impact Kings Beach businesses and has the potential to spur continued investment in the community.” said Doyle.
