April Awesomeness
Here at Lake Tahoe, the middle of April is when we move into what is called the off-season. While to business owners, the off-season means fewer customers, for many locals it is a special time to enjoy the beauty of Tahoe. The trees are budding and flowers blooming with the coming of spring. While many trails are still covered in snow, those that are open will be quiet and largely people free. And Tahoe’s shoreline is spectacularly beautiful in the spring with just a few paddleboarders or kayakers altering the blissfully quiet lake surface.
April is time for a quiet hike along the lakeshore, or taking a sit on a beach to watch the world slowly roll by. It’s time to take a relaxing stroll through Tahoe City and help a few local businesses through the slow time. And it’s a time for Earth Day and Discount Coupons:
Earth Day, April 16th.
Tahoe-Truckee’s Earth Day Celebration fills the Village in Squaw Valley on April 16th from 11 am to 5 pm. There is live music, lots of great food, over 50 booths providing information, and a fun group of folks happily enjoying the sunshine. A highlight every year is the Trashion Show, when local students from Truckee High School, in conjunction with Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP), create fashions out of recycled goods and trash, and then model them for the cheering crowd. For the kids, The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum from Reno is hosting a Discovery Zone with lots of fun crafts for the kids to play with, as well as kids based Leave No Trace tips.
Discount Coupons
Just as skiing is coming to a close, the discount coupons for some of our favorite local restaurants start popping up in the paper like purple crocus. Now is the time to head to Wolfdale’s, Soule Domain, and a host of other top dining establishments and get some great deals, without the crowds of summer. Find coupons in the following local papers throughout the spring: Tahoe Weekly, Moonshine Ink, and Sierra Sun.
In reality, when it comes to enjoying Tahoe there really is no off-season, just a time when you can have fun at the lake without the crowds.
