Cedar House Sport Hotel
Tahoe is fittingly best known for it’s awesome natural beauty, but humans have also created some places here that are well deserving of our admiration. One such place is The Cedar House Sport Hotel, a little gem tucked away on Brockway Road in Truckee. The hotel is a modern mix of wood, rock and steel that is an inviting and invigorating place to stay. The accommodations are beautifully furnished and luxurious, with each guest tucked into a sumptuous down comforter. But it’s also a relaxed and practical retreat providing free wifi, a charming lobby with bar, hot tub and delicious breakfast buffet. They’ve even thought about Rex, with several dog friendly rooms, where your buddy gets his own bed, water bowl, and treat.
Owner Patty Baird says, “As a family owned business we offer something many large corporations cannot: Exceptional service with attention to personal details. Aesthetically, we know hotels need to be warm and inviting, but they should also transcend the function of shelter into an experience."
Your breakfast buffet is presented at Stella’s Restaurant, located on the grounds of the hotel. It’s an intimate establishment, where five evenings a week Chef Jacob Burton turns out some of the finest dining you will find in Truckee. Burton is always developing something interesting and new, and the kitchen is open to the restaurant giving you a chance to watch the experts at work.
Also part of the hotel is Tahoe Trips and Trails, an outdoors guiding company that has been leading folks all over the west for 15 years. TTT guides take groups on hiking, kayaking, biking and snowshoeing trips around Lake Tahoe, passing on their knowledge of the local flora, fauna and whatever else might be of interest. Often the tours are combined with a lunch provided by Stella’s. Next year, plans are in the works for TTT to lead backpacking trips where after two days in the wilderness, you return to dinner at Stella’s and a well earned night under those comfy comforters.
“We live in a fast pace world, where technology has changed the methods of how we communicate and connect to one other. At the Cedar House, we help our guests connect and reconnect to nature through outdoor adventures,” says Baird.
Cedar House also contains meeting space and is a popular spot for weddings or events. It’s a one stop shop where your guests can spend the night, savor breakfast the next morning, enjoy a guided hike, followed by a meeting or event, and top off the day with a glorious dinner. Ah, now doesn’t that sound nice.
