Fine Dining Lake Tahoe
Fine Dining Lake Tahoe
There are no shortage of 5 star restaurants to choose from when visiting North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Although Lake Tahoe is relatively small, local chefs compete for the tourists that visit the area and so the food is superb. From lakefront dining to incredible mountain views, each offers a unique ambiance and diverse cuisine. Below I have created a list of some of my favorite restaurants.
Truckee - City Dining
Moody's is located in historic downtown Truckee and is known for its craft cocktails and farm to table menu, . Their live music venue allows you to grab drinks and appetizers around a bar area while waiting for a more private table in the restaurant. Moody's appetizers include hummus and olives or dungeness crab cocktail. Along with pizza, pan seared scallops, pan roasted chicken, their truffle fries are not to be missed. The night-time vibe at Moody's has a bit of a city feel and the music is always outstanding.
Truckee - Intimate Dining
As you travel the streets of historic downtown Truckee, this cozy restaurant is tucked away below, giving it a warm and intimate feel. A large bar and comfy booths add to the rustic decor. Pianeta specializes in Northern Italian cuisine and offers delicious appetizers, house-made pasta and desserts. Highlights include the ravioli bolognese, a delicious ragu of beef, veal and tomato, spinach, mozzarella and parmesan, and chicken Marsala with sautéed mushrooms, grilled spinach and orecchiette pasta. Whether you prefer to eat at the bar, or enjoy the intimacy of a booth, Pianeta is a local favorite.
Truckee - Hilltop Dining
Nestled on a hilltop overlooking historic downtown Truckee, Cottonwoods has an old western ambiance with easy listening music offered in the bar area. Their unusual cuisine ranges from roasted brussel sprouts with feta cheese and pine nuts to pork tenderloin and tuscan meatballs. For those with a hearty appetite, they do not disappoint with their New York steak, braised baby back ribs or smoked elk sage sausage.
Tahoe City - Lakefront East/West Cuisine
Known for their East West cuisine, Wolfdales is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City. Their dishes are creatively prepared and change often with appetizers that include smoked trout, ahi poke cones, unusually prepared vegetables and hamachi spoons with a decidedly eastern presentation. The restaurant overlooks a bacci ball court and the lake. A bar area is also located in the bacci ball court during summer. The dining room offers incredible views but is limited in size so reservations are recommended.
Tahoe City - Lakefront Upscale Dining
The West Shore Cafe sits on Lake Tahoe and is close to Homewood. From rosemary lamb chops to grilled sea bass, their menu includes steaks, seafood and delicious salads and soups. In the summer, guests can enjoy deck dining in an upscale ambiance overlooking the lake. The West Shore Cafe also has a yearly New Years eve dinner that is very popular. For those with discriminating tastes, the West Shore Cafe is a popular choice.
Tahoe City - Intimate Dining
Christy Hill is known for Modern American dining. It has a cosmopolitan twist with dishes such as pate, Moroccan spiced lamb loin, duet of duck, pappardelle pasta and juniper brined pork chop. Appetizers include pan roasted gnocci and grilled octopus. Located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, Christy Hill is a popular restaurant that requires reservations because of its small size.
