Lake Tahoe Snow Report
The recent snowstorm at Lake Tahoe brought 7 to 10 feet of snow. This sets the stage for an amazing spring of skiing and riding in the Tahoe basin. In fact, Palisades Tahoe changed their closing date to July 2, 2024. Most of the other resorts will be closing toward the end of April.
Sugar Bowl received a whopping 10.5 feet of snow, while Soda Springs enjoyed almost 10 feet of new snow. Both resorts are in the Donner Summit, which usually gets more snowfall than other areas.
Ski Report
This week, the skies are sunny and the temperatures are mild. In addition to a good base of snow at most resorts, trails and lifts are almost fully operational.

More Snow on the Way
Toward the end of March, forecasters are calling for another trough of cold air and precipitation. We will probably have a few more snowstorms before the season is over, which may delay other resort closing dates.
The storm that is moving into the area over the weekend of March 22nd, is forecast to be moderate, and certainly nothing like the storm that kicked off the month of March. Snow levels are expected to be around 8000 feet and falling to 7000 feet by the end of the weekend.
The following week, another round of storms are forecast for Northern California and should last several days. This is a colder and more active storm, which should close the month with abundant snow levels at the local resorts.
Spring Skiing at Lake Tahoe
Spring skiing at Lake Tahoe often showcases many people dressed in costumes. Fewer crowds and warmer weather can make skiing more enjoyable. Skiers and riders can enjoy the slopes without bundling up in multiple layers, making for a more comfortable experience.
With the days getting longer as spring progresses, skiers have more daylight hours to enjoy their time on the mountain. This often means extended lift hours and more time for après-ski activities. Additionally, the resorts often showcase free music and festivals.
As temperatures rise during the day and drop at night, the snow undergoes a freeze-thaw cycle, resulting in softer snow conditions. This can make skiing more forgiving and enjoyable, especially for beginners or those who prefer groomed runs.
Spring skiing often brings clearer skies and more sunshine, which not only adds to the enjoyment of being outdoors but also helps soften the snow, creating ideal conditions for carving turns.
